Casey Engel (b. 1991) is an interdisciplinary artist working across fibers, ceramics, and printmaking. Her work explores self-expression, collection, and accumulation through material-driven processes that shift between stitching, carving, sculpting, and painting. Rooted in traditional craft, Engel’s practice embraces transformation—both personal and formal—through labor, gesture, and improvisation.
She earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2015. Engel has participated in residencies at the Hambidge Center (Rabun Gap, GA), Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (Amherst, VA), Township10 (Marshall, NC), the Bascom: Center for Visual Arts (Highlands, NC), and Starfangled Press (Brevard, NC). She has led workshops at Converse University, the Bascom, and Odyssey Clayworks.
Her work has been exhibited at Converse University (Spartanburg, SC), Piedmont Arts Museum (Martinsville, VA), McDonough Museum of Art (Youngstown, OH), Asheville Art Museum (Asheville, NC), Arrowmont Gallery (Knoxville, TN), the Bascom (Highlands, NC), and GreenHill Center for North Carolina Art (Greensboro, NC), and is included in private collections internationally. Engel lives and works in Asheville, NC, where she maintains a home studio.
